For anyone to claim that crime is down in SF is mind boggling. Click the link our "DA" posted. Lots of crime is way up. To be proud and tweet about what this data shows is just something else. I would be ashamed of these numbers and resign immediately if I were him.https://twitter.com/chesaboudin/status/1316952744071188480 …

Chesa's tweet reminds me of when I was just starting as a PM at Twitter: let's cherry pick some numbers and put together a narrative to trick the experiment review team. In SF, I think the "experiment review team" is the BOS. They need to hold him accountable! Replace them!

Stealing stuff. Decrease is likely COVID-related.

but burglaries are up and walgreens looting is up. i'm not sure how all that gets categorized

The increase in homicides as an absolute is quite low, and similar to other major cities across the country. Burglaries are up everywhere; let’s not pretend this is some unique SF problem. Meanwhile, the jail population has been reduced almost 40% and overall crime is down.

thank you for this. good to have the other perspective. i do wish Chesa tweet more info to give a deeper look into what he thinks success is. Agree homicides are an absolute low but the relative increase seems alarming. If burglaries are up everywhere, then lets just say that.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but it appears rape, robbery, assault, trafficking & larceny are all down. Am I missing something?pic.twitter.com/R5PxY6qnYX

totally. it just seems weird for the DA to blanket say "cime is down" when we have +-40% swings on the specific crimes, and to average away homicides with larceny. I would expect our officials to be more thorough and data driven than that.
