“Carlson seems to attribute America’s troubles not to government interventionism, but to government non-interventionism.... For Carlson, however, the very freedom of our society leads to the unhappiness so many of us feel.”

I would describe Carlson’s screed as anti-American. It is much closer to Bernie Sanders than anything resembling a limited government philosophy. He views government as the answer, but just wants it to pursue different goals than Sanders.

Embarrassing that anyone on the right would defend this garbage. Imagine believing freedom is the problem because it isn’t leading to the outcomes you want, as if outcomes should be guaranteed. How about looking in the mirror sometime instead of blaming society for your failures?

You live in the greatest country in the history of the world. You have access to previously unimaginable opportunity. And yet you conclusion is that our society isn’t good enough because some people still fail?

This system is the greatest accomplishment in human history. It’s a real miracle. And these schmucks want to throw it all away because they are ignorant and ungrateful. Anyways, JG wrote a spot on book about this garbage:https://www.amazon.com/Suicide-West-Tribalism-Nationalism-Destroying-ebook/dp/B06WV9JQBT …

I believe Tucker is saying certain policies caused mass job loss w/ non-coll edu males & ruined the nuc fams in these pops. Putting them back to work will improve their lives, & revive their nuc fams. Quite the opp of more gov in our personal life. This won’t destroy the “west”.

Wherein “putting them back to work” means government intervention in the market via tariffs, to raise the cost of competing foreign products, and by other direct government programs. So there’s that.

Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive who thought that the job of the presidency should be as big as the man holding it could make it. That’s not really the conservative argument you think it is.

I didn’t but there are some pretty good existing definitions, none of which lend themselves to Teddy’s view of the presidency. But I do take your point: if you simply define away the problem, then there is no problem.

that's why we have a written constitution so it doesn't matter who is in govt, it's the standard. the problem starts when every1 becomes universally ignorant & debauched in their manners, & don't follow the US Const. Some id10ts even want 2 change it when it's not followed now.

I would argue fundamental flaws were unknowingly baked in from the start of the current system. I say unknowingly because the liberal democratic republic of the founding was a new untried system.

"reforms" to the "system" made by the ignorant were unnecessary & mostly improper. "sufficient" isn't a word I would use since again, it's a parchment barrier. we're in the same boat today, a bunch of ignorant m0r0ns think they're wiser than Madison want 2 change the US Const.

He clearly pointed out where government is actually the problem, with a welfare system that destroys generations tgrough dependency and discourages family units to form. He was also against government hollowing out the working class by offshoring manufacturing.
