    First tornado in Minnesota on record in December CONFIRMED.

    NWS La Crosse storm survey teams have confirmed two tornadoes occurred Dec. 15th. An EF0 tornado occurred east/southeast of Lewiston, MN and an EF2 tornado north of Neillsville, WI. More complete damage survey results will be released later today.

    Wednesday's wind storm was simply unprecedented for December. Its list of weather records and meteorological firsts is seemingly endless. This makes two historic weather events in the Central U.S. in one week:

    Always find it odd how something so destructive can be so beautiful when viewed from space.

    UPDATE: 's 🛰️ tracked yesterday's powerful storm system as it raked the Plains with the highest reported number of hurricane-force t'storm wind gusts in one day since 2004. In total, the system has produced 20+ and 500+ severe wind reports from CO to WI.

    Whoa. This storm has broken a record for the most 65+ knot winds reported from severe thunderstorms in 1 day in the Lower 48 states. At any time of the year. But this occurred in mid-Dec. Bananas.

    It's official: December 15, 2021 has broken the record for the most 65+ knot severe wind reports in a day. With 45 such reports, today surpasses June 6, 2020, which had 44. That this is happening in December is a climatological anomaly of extreme proportions.

    The SPC just recorded a 40th filtered 65+knot wind report. That puts today ahead of the 8/10/2020 Iowa derecho, fitting 12/15/2021 solidly into second place. Only five more to go until today beats the record.
