Dr. Tara C. Smith Retweeted Dr. Theresa Chapple

This thread. I've mentioned that many of my colleagues (& myself) are feeling so demoralized right now. This is a big reason why. I didn't think folks would really appreciate public health that much more, but in Jan 2020 I certainly didn't anticipate this much animosity for it.https://twitter.com/Theresa_Chapple/status/1418922737586802691 …

An @EpiEllie tweet from a while ago is the inspiration for mine today. The biggest thing I got wrong during the pandemic was public & political support. I just knew since the world finally understood epidemics & pandemics, they would also realize the importance of public health

Demoralized is a great word for it. I had always thought most people were good. I'm realizing far more people than I had thought are at best selfish and stupid and at worst downright evil in their disregard for the lives of others. I don't know how to deal with that.

The political & sabotaging bullhorns definitely get in the way But the teaching element of Ph is so very, very important ✊✌️ It can be just saying the right thing over & over & over & over again, sometimes just to squeeze through the noise But it does get through!pic.twitter.com/MzSwSfeK1s
