I've gotten a lot of questions about how bad this #2019_nCov outbreak might get if it ends up in the US. And we just don't know, and I don't find it super helpful to speculate. At the same time, I know there's lots of anxiety. So here's what helps me: a thread. /1

If you're sick & can stay home, please do it. I know not everyone can. If you're an employer, please do all you can to provide employees with sick leave to cut transmission. Be sure you're vaccinated for
#influenza--if you're sick with flu, symptoms are similar to novel CV. /3Prikaži ovu nit -
The
@CDCgov also recommends everyone has an emergency preparedness kit. https://www.cdc.gov/childrenindisasters/checklists/kids-and-families.html … These are great for people who want to do *something* active to plan for a "just in case." /4Prikaži ovu nit -
Emergency kits will help you be prepared for events that are more likely too: snowstorms, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. Be honest: you've talked about what you'd do during a zombie pandemic. Doesn't hurt to do a bit of preparation for a more mundane emergency. /5

Someone suggested washing hands/Purelling whenever you've been somewhere public or touched something public - that includes restaurant menus (which are rarely wiped down,) gas station pumps, any pin pads/ signing pens, doorknobs and of course, public transit anything.

Yes. We still don't know much about the environmental stability of the novel coronavirus, but this is a good idea to reduce transmission of many pathogens. Handwashing is better than hand sanitizer if it's available.

We need to also be sanitizing our phones, they are third hands that never get washed, a personal Petri dish. They are most definitely increasing transmission rates of viruses. Kind of defeats the purpose of washing your hands if you touch your dirty phone afterwards...
