This is an insightful essay, but I am sad to see that the concept of permeability in buildings is branded as this new and even radical idea. Impermeable buildings are constructs of just the last century.

Vernacular/earthen buildings have a lot to teach us about permeability and sustainability and have all the cheap and simple solutions. I realize though that we are afraid to learn from a past that did not include architects, as if the built environment then was not architecture.
