This is a great rundown of Mead vs. Freeman and the rise of anti-racist thought against biological determinist ideology and the return of determinism before Petersen and the rest. The sharpest parenthetical snark was saved for Mead's ex Sapir.

(1)Great read. Like Mead though, I think Peterson's views can be repeated out of context. I don't agree with lots of his ideas but this particular one stuck with me.He speaks of social organization under the frame of hierarchies of knowledge, shared competence, process + values

(2) The evolutionary link (Lobster analogy) was an unfortunate effort to add on to the main question of - Are hierarchies necessary? (In my understanding). I think the context and points he makes are being merged into one evaluation of his views..

(3) rather than being understood as seperate pockets of content he was trying to link together. ( - The problem of hierarchy being more than an issue of capitalism). Peterson advocates massively in creating social change, starting with individual responsibility..

(4) Calling him a determinist or, just an evolutionary thinker, completley contradicts the fundamentals of his work? Surely I haven't been reading him wrong all this time?
