Just a bit of feedback: I think some discussion of filial piety (and perhaps even the War States Period) would have given readers important context of the Confucian philosophical lineage Mengzi was working within (and help draw parallels to the contemporary state of philosophy).

Unlike the Golden Rule, Mengzian Rule (or Hume/Smith's extended sympathy) doesn't manage justice. If I care abt my loved ones & I don't want U to treat them badly, then, before extending my care to U & Ur loved ones, I must not treat the ones U love badly, bc U care abt them too.
