as a patient who had a severe symptoms of depressio and is now on medication (year and a half) i have to disagree with this. i think the 'problem' is with expectations. medications will not make you happy/healthy. but they will give you energy to perform basic functions

if you expect to FEEL happiness like when you were healthy than you'll be disappointed with medications. you need to learn to live with emotional fluctuations and NOT expect happiness too often. i think most misunderstandings come from the fact that treatment can take very long.
