I’ve had multiple cis woman lesbian partners who are NOT attracted to cis men but ARE attracted to trans women. I wonder why that would be? (It’s because trans women are women.)

Transphobes argue that a cis woman who is in a relationship with a trans woman is either straight or bisexual. They say she cannot be a lesbian because the person she is with is not a woman. This is wrong.

Current TERF messaging is that trans women—especially trans women with penises (hi!)—are incompatible with lesbianism. But being a lesbian is about being a woman who is attracted to other women. And the label “woman” is much more complicated than what genitals you have.

I have a penis and I am still a woman. I am still a lesbian. When lesbians are in a relationship with me, they remain lesbians, because they are in a relationship with me as a person, not a specific part of my body.

Genitals aren’t very important. If you’re currently in love with someone, ask yourself, “Would I stop loving them if they suddenly had different genitals?” I hope the answer is “no”. If it isn’t, your love is apparently extremely conditional!

Your point about genetics falls apart because there are lots of women who are biologically female and their chromosomes' are XY. They were born with vaginas and are no less female than trans women, or cis-women.
