since my entire section is shutting down there’s no review of the ps5 dualsense edge incoming besides this: it’s good, worth $200 if you want it, battery life dies in about 4 hours but most ppl who buy these are wired in. also nicely still charges via the brand charger stand

. has been working on something deeply researched and personal. It’s not out yet, but I hope you’ll listen once it is!

On this day 17 years ago, the body of Emmery Muñoz was found at a warehouse in Boyle Heights. She was a freshman at Francisco Bravo High, had an infectious laugh, loved Mariah Carey and loved to dance. She was 14 and she was in a party crew like I was at that time.

It's been a rough few weeks in terms of media layoffs so I want to flag a job I'm helping hire for: , which trains incarcerated people as journalists and helps them get published, is hiring a managing editor to run all of its editorial strategy

TFW you cancel your NYT subscription and you keep reminding the customer service rep that you don’t use the word “miss” for yourself bc you’re non-binary and they keep saying “im sorry, miss” Obvi this rep isn’t responsible for the NYT’s terrible coverage on trans kids. But lol

I know i keep tweeting about this but i still can't get over the fact that the NYT wrote a piece that centered parents who are upset that schools aren't OUTING their children.

The NYT is harming kids. you wanna write a good story about this? A story you can actually execute (bc we know stories about kids are hard if you don't have a parent's consent)? write a story about the teachers who are navigating this & prioritizing the safety of their students

Tell me what is wrong with a kid being out as trans at school and not being out at home. Tell me how this is any different from all the teachers who honor kids who are out as gay at school by not telling their parents (whether those parents end up being accepting or not!)

so baffled by what is going on with the times' coverage of trans kids. like says, it's not that these stories can't be written, it's that the framing is wildly irresponsible (and consistently! over and over! in the same way!)

imagine writing that story about gay kids today. Y’all Expect teachers to out their students to parents? Parents who could potentially kick them out and say they are suffering from mental health issues and that’s the reason they think they’re gay? Lol sure. Great reporting.

Teachers: Thank you for validating and supporting kids who are trying to be their full, beautiful selves. Thank you for giving kids space to explore. Thank you for giving kids Space to find the right footing to eventually tell their parents who they are, when they are ready.

To be clear, I’m not saying articles about this shouldn’t written. The framing is the issue. Centering the bigoted parents who complain about having to support their children, rather than the kids and their hero teachers… just wild.

Good questions! “But did the bank’s due diligence team include anyone who had been on financial aid, to see if the whole thing passed the sniff test? Had anyone ever filled out a FAFSA for his or her family?”

We were informed today that the company is laying off around 7 percent of its workforce, and some of our members have been impacted. We're furious at the way the company has approached these layoffs, and are currently discussing how to best serve those who just lost their jobs.

Heard about the layoffs at vox media. I stand in solidarity with my former colleagues. Y’all are incredible and I’m so sorry this happened.

This is truly so much dumber than it needs to be

Might wanna rethink that use of $$$ “the MTA closed all 69 of the public restrooms... Almost 3 years later, it just opened up nine. Nine…the MTA is looking into installing pee-smelling devices to detect when someone has urinated in its elevators.” nytimes.com/2023/01/15/opi

I had an excellent time talking to about, well, everything that's happened since the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year, and what we can expect to see this year.
Quote Tweet
When Roe was overturned, at least 13 states had trigger laws to ban abortion in all but the most extreme cases. But what happened to the people who qualified for these abortion exceptions? @carter_sherman explores in a new podcast episode. Listen here: trib.al/wzLHFtW
