Finally our foreword for the "Tim Clark 70th Birthday Festschrift" is online. A special collection of papers in honour of a great mentor, researcher, and fine person, with a nice list of contributions across the landscape

This is utterly bizarre. How they can have got themselves in a position of such cognitive dissonance they have to have an ideologically sound word guide is baffling.

Calling all scientists with relevant domain experience. There are 313 results on for "coronavirus" right now. Almost none of them have attached reviews. Let's fix that by Monday morning. Who's with me?

It was so windy up the Tor today that this photo was taken with me huddled in the shelter of the tower. Seriously nearly knocked me over going down the stairs! Anyhow, this was pre sunrise. Sunrise looked incredible (from my office window!)

Great point by : “Most development of drugs, as well as their use in the clinic, is microbiome-naive.” For some drugs, microbiome may be irrelevant. For others, manipulating the microbiomes of 'non-responders' might make them into 'responders'.

This is a demonstration no one should be doing. Global warming potential of SF6 is >20,000 CO2. The gas has an atmospheric lifetime of tens of thousands of years. Inexcusable and irresponsible.

Ireland was one of only two English-speaking countries, along with New Zealand, where satisfaction with democracy had not declined since the 1990s - both use proportional representation.

“We’re finding that we have increasing numbers of children born already in a weakened state from heat and air pollution." Climate change is just about bigger, wetter hurricanes over Florida … It’s a much more pervasive and ongoing impact.

Then there's the Unified Patent Court (if ever implemented), European Chemicals Agency, Aviation Safety, Erasmus, research programmes - the UK will find it difficult to have any meaningful cooperation with any on the basis of Johnson's speech 12/

Then there's the European Medicines Agency and Clinical Trials Directive. No ECJ means far more limited collaboration with other countries in clinical trials and access to medicine. 11/

Take Euratom. No ECJ means no participation. What we lose potentially is access to nuclear isotopes for hospitals and access to cutting edge nuclear research. 10/

Refreshingly honest of the Telegraph to reveal that they weren't reporting news, or informing their readership but rather waging a war against the EU for 40 years.
