    Interesting long-read on the euro by . As regards the importance of the external dimension of the euro: does a euro in a state of permacrisis contribute to the EU's influence or does it weaken the EU's geopolitical clout?

    Good article on the current state and future discussions on the euro, representing the Dutch frugal view, by . (I miss the external dimension in understanding the creation of the euro though. A common shortcoming)

    I am not sure. The public debate has moved forward. It seems pulled out a piece written in the aftermath of the Great Recession.

    But this is the point, there are many euroskeptic and eurocritics in The Netherlands and it is good to listen to them, read them so we understand how they think, the perspective they have.

    Note to the next NL government: It is no longer sufficient for a government to define its own fiscal space without addressing the EU fiscal space. EU ambitions must be financed too. The next Rutte government will have to specify whether it will accept €bonds.

    Daniel Gros: Expectations regarding German position in a next euro-crisis. "German will show solidary with the EU, but not for the euro". Germany will support its own EU objectives (eg greening) but not rescue countries with high debts. The ESM will be fully re-installed.

    Van mij mag Rutte IV overigens de deur naar €bonds openzetten. Het lijkt mij beter van te voren duidelijkheid te verschaffen over waarom, waarvoor, onder welke voorwaarden, en hoe ze af te lossen. Zie vooral:

    De nieuwe verzuiling?

    Rutte IV kan niet om het EU-budget heen, betoogt prof. : via Wat jammer dat je dit soort genuanceerde stukken zelden of althans veel te weinig in media als de of aantreft.
