Despite all my efforts to embrace the dystopia, I didn’t see this headline coming.

Somehow this feels applicable to climate change too.

For some reason, I haven't been invited to Davos this year. Was it something I said? 🤔

Make no mistake, this is a strategy. If externalities were priced correctly and liabilities were assigned where they due, oil&gas wouldn't be competitive. The toxic and criminal grip of the fossil fuel industry won't last forever though.

Fossil energy is central to the globalized economy & thereby elemental in current foreign relations. The preservation of a fossil-fueled economy is, in part, a foolhardy attempt by global superpowers to maintain their supremacy at the cost of life itself.

Pour more concrete. Install more A/Cs to protect the elderly from heat stroke. I'm trying to come up with similarly great adaptation measures.

Once more for those in the back: there is no easy half-step to be made on climate. That was an option in the 80s. It was removed by a powerful minority that weaponized human nature against itself. Radical action is required now to counter the radical inaction of the past.

“If in the past year the world began to understand how dangerous climate change is, it certainly didn’t act like it. In the past ten years, more CO2 was emitted than in all of human history up to the election of J.F.K.” The great ⁦⁩.

My biggest climate-related hope for 2020 is that journalists, activists, and politicians talk less about our individual carbon footprints and talk more about how businesses and governments consistently refuse to do anything meaningful to reduce theirs

Unbelievable. The country is on fire and big polluters like you fueled it.
