I presume you’re smart enough (and ‘not a dickhead’ enough) to realise the guy sneering at me was a complete tool. Apply that to the new kid-friendly range of 40K and AoS books. We can all choose how to react to a potential goldmine of new enthusiastic fellow fans.

And if you *can’t* help your negativity, ask yourself why. What are you defending, here? Do you think Andy Chambers (praise unto His name) and Rick Priestley are sat there at home, rolling their eyes, unable to believe this travesty? Do you *really* believe that?

There’s an argument (and a good one!) that a huge part of the appeal of 40K when you’re first getting into it as a kid is that it feels pretty weighty, dense, and arguably mature. I got that feeling when I was scratching the surface with Space Crusade, for sure. I *loved* it.

But that’s just one way into it. People can and will still get into it with the same vibe I/we did. Others will get into it with Warhammer Adventures, for ages 8+. It’s just a new avenue into the thing we all love – one that ultimately doesn’t affect those of us already into it.

For [insert deity of choice]'s sake, gang, this is adorable and awesome and doesn't affect any of us grognards -- beyond giving us more people to talk to, and more people to play with, in a few years. Don't clutch pearls and keep gates. We're not holders of the eternal flame.

I don't mind books for kids, with dilluted lore. I just don't like Ultramarines being called "the bravest", even though I play them :) White Scars would certainly disagree :) And I'm not sure, how the "understanding the world through knowledge and without firepower" will work :)

Space Crusade (around age 8/9), then Warhammer Quest, then 2nd ed 40k (2nd ed Codex Imperialis is what really got me hooked), Necromunda, Gorkamorka, 3rd ed 40k then loooong hiatus. Now back with 8th ed 40k&Necromunda. Infect them early enough, and the virus will recur.

I started with Space Hulk aged about ten, played more epic than Rogue Trader after that.
