Very important catch by : Trump's lawyers changed Romney's question about whether Trump's team had "any evidence" Trump directed the quid pro quo to whether the team had "any evidence in the House record." That small legalistic jump allowed them to ignore Cippolone.

Ironic that White House counsel makes argument that there was no crime to justify impeachment here, unlike in Clinton impeachment. But Clinton’s crime was perjury! And Trump won’t testify under oath. That’s the only reason he hasn’t committed perjury & they/we all know it.

"We can't overturn the will of the voters," say the same Republicans who rig the electoral process through voter suppression, gerrymandering & lame duck coups to protect the power of a shrinking white minority

What's so indefensible about the argument that Bolton doesn't need to testify bc even if everything he says is true, it's not impeachable is that it presumes we know what he'll say! We don't know what he'd say abt cover-up & administration lies after the fact, among other things.

When Republicans vote to acquit Trump, they know he won't be repentant & chastened—he will be gleeful & feel completely vindicated & mock the process. If we assume some senators believe in good faith that his behavior towards Ukraine doesn't warrant removal, are they good w/that?

So if the Senate GOP won't allow for witnesses, are we going to march in an attempt to save democracy? Or just tweet about it angrily? I can do either one, just let me know.

Can we talk about how Netflix has ruined watching movies? So many great movies from past & recent past are unavailable streaming. I end up watching Netflix's own low-budget thrillers (bc they're there) or watching nothing. I miss going to the movie store & picking something out!

So neat—these awesome people made an old-fashioned audio drama/podcast from a chapter of "The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P." I read the text, but terrific actors do the dialogue. There's original music too. It's the chapter about Nate & Hannah's first date.

Such an important story of an injustice we can correct. It’s so troubling to think about the stories that won’t get reported if local newspapers die & the ones that aren’t being reported now because they’re happening in places that have already lost their newspapers.

It feels self-interested to say that I like this piece by in the Millions. But while he does says nice things about "The Love of Affairs of Nathaniel P.", I think his observations about fiction are sharp, as well as tart.

2020, more than any year since the end of World War II, perhaps more than any since the Civil War, will be pivotal for the future of American democracy. It may survive. It may falter. We decide.
