As long as after putting the video off the person doesn’t go silent

It’s super strange. My girlfriend is in her masters program and some of her professors force cameras on
-
I "get" that professors have a hard time speaking to - silence. One best practice I heard was that a prof asked to have at least 30% of cameras on at any one time, so they could feel they had an audience. As some would turn off, others would turn on.

"Hide Self View" works great!

This is the practical suggestion we've been looking to hear... especially if the manager doesn't allow the choice to be camera off. Much of the psychology might be related to how much you're judging yourself in real time.

I wasn't in that survey. If you want to see me exhausted, ask me to be in audio-only calls. I find it much harder if I can't see people I talk to. Although I can't lipread, I've realised that I find it much easier to hear what people are saying if I can see their mouth.

Completely agree. I've always been a bit phone phobic, and positively detested old school conference calls. 18 months of using mostly video has really cemented for me that I find video much less stressful. But I also acknowledge that we aren't all the same...
