Echoing some crappy econ writing. I hate the "little is known" but also terrible: "as far as I know, this is the first paper to..." If it is your paper, you better knowhttps://twitter.com/paulgp/status/1032022427210002434 …

I'm going to put this tweet in my syllabus next to
@VaranyaChaubey's book -
Hah, yes! "Little is known" and "I am the first"-- two phrases I would be delighted never to hear again.
-
Suppose I am the first person to evaluate a particular type of program - if “I am the first” or “this is the first” are too cliche, what would be the correct way to indicate this is part of the contribution? Huge fan of your book btw.
-
Oh thank you! More than the phrase itself, I suppose it is what is implied both for the reader and the writer that worries me. A good P (in RAP) could help readers infer this aspect of the contribution and allow the writer to focus on other aspects.

This paper is well written and addresses an important research question, but I still recommend rejection due to the absence of a convincing identification strategy.
