Any idea why my FireWire 800 OWC drive sometimes disconnects and reconnects? Happens only at night.pic.twitter.com/AEOroP5K8K

@adamengst Interesting. Perhaps it needs a bus reset every so often.
@dnanian Yeah, I'm kind of weirded out by it. I take those eject warnings sort of personally because I would never do that. ;-)
@adamengst Yeah, we see them often via support - usually indicates hardware trouble (cable, port, case, power)…sometimes drive.
@dnanian Could be a new hardware problem, since it started recently, but the drive/case/cable is from December and it's bus-powered on UPS
@adamengst A lot of devices on USB? Maybe problems with transient power requirements going over port capacity?
@dnanian And of course, it's on the FireWire bus, via the Thunderbolt Display, connected to the Retina iMac.
@adamengst Well, there’s your problem: Thunderbolt display. ;-)
@dnanian Yeah, I’d like a Retina Thunderbolt Display to match my Retina iMac, but that doesn’t seem to be happening soon.
@adamengst That is interesting that sleep helps. That wouldn't work for me because it was happening during long-running backups.
@mjtsai Indeed - this is a personal Mac, not a server.
