There's been an update to this piece: Albertson's has announced that union drivers in the Bay Area will not be laid off for now; the union was able to push back. It's only the non-union employees in the rest of the state who will lose their jobs and benefits to the gig economy.

It's been time to boycott these delivery services that exploit workers and charge a whole lotta delivery fees. Order directly from the restaurant when possible.

Even direct orders from most restaurants and grocery stores in my area still go to DoorDash. I do curbside pickup whenever possible.

Want to place bets on which companies are next? FedEx? UPS? Entire Teamsters union? A few years back, a friend worked for DoorDash doing user research (she wasn't a DoorDash employee, she was working through Taskrabbit, which is hilarious) to help make them a LOGISTICS company.

Uber has been putting stock into logistics as well for quite some time. Eats doesn't make money, it's all the gig trucking jobs that do.
