Yeah, that’s a real mystery. Bill Murray has three or four movies better than Williams’s best, and his tv work was better too.

Murphy's tv peak is the highest, his film comedic peak is highest, and his comedic range is the best. They've all made a lot of clunkers. I don't think you can put BM over EM w/o over-weighting the dramas, and I think it's fair to say that Murphy didn't have same opportunities.

Ok, I’m persuaded. Plus he was good at standup. My reaction was more to the performance of Williams in the poll, where I’d rank him fourth out of the four (though ahead of Carrey).

Both Murphy & Williams' reputations have suffered from making so many things that were not cool. Murray is the master of being cool at everything he does. I do think it's a close call between the four.

I will highlight, for those who haven't seen it, the s3 episode of Mork and Mindy titled "Mork Meets Robin Williams," which is incredibly funny *and* sad. It's a lamentation on the cost of fame which he did shortly after John Lennon's murder. Act 2 here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlNVEKrMoOw …

And an appearance by Ron Howard’s dad
