So my dad's had to be rushed to hospital due to a weird fuck-up with his catheter that I won't go into, but, still, no-one can go with him, and A&E don't pick up the phone. So. Basically, you just have to hope that he's not just lying on a trolley somewhere. Sorry to be bleak.

The problem is, because he has dementia, he won't know why he's there, or how to even ask what's happening, or when he'll be seen, and...sorry. It's such a nightmare.

Thanks so much for all your lovely good wishes. And yes, obvoiusly I have faith in the doctors and nurses. But it doesn't stop you worrying, I'm afraid.

Update: my dad's carer has now been allowed to be with him at hospital. Which is great, and I believe correct procedure with a dementia patient, although we only got this after a certain amount of insistence. Anyway. Thanks for all advice.

Further update: the good people at Northwick Park hospital have managed to sort the catheter issue, and my dad is asleep, and hopefully recovering. That's all I'm going to say for tonight - it's been fairly traumatic - but thanks to them and thanks to you all for your support.

Hope your Dad gets out soon, feeling better....in situations like this it is cruel to not allow a carer/relative and thankfully that was resolved..my Mam is in a care home and I imagine the worry and stress must have been very tough. Love from, a stranger
