@DavidWoodnutt Gavin what do you think@gavinandresen 2MB now, then 4MB in 2 years and 8MB in 4years then re-asses? (Similar to BIP 102) -
@adam3us I think 2MB is absurdly small. Where do you get that number from, or does it just "feel right"? Average web page size is 2MB... -
.
@gavinandresen how about doing a podcast or panel with GMaxwell. Sound-bites are not a good way to do security-validated protocol design. -
@adam3us@gavinandresen While a live panel would be nice, this feels an awful lot like the old "bait and switch"... -
.
@CoinCadence@gavinandresen It's just really complicated & not amenable to protocol design via twitter. too much protocol design via media. -
.
@CoinCadence my point was to propose a BIP intended as a reasonable compromise that would be balanced & achieve consensus.@gavinandresen

@adam3us Why wait two years between doublings? Wouldn't one year be enough? -
.
@mmeijeri aiming for balance. 8MB is somewhat validated number. want > than 2 years, room to see how decentralisation, lightning etc work. -
also in practice you would grow smoothly as BIP 103 does not step function as BIP 101. system shocks are bad for miner security & planning.

.
@DigiEconomist Yes at the next level of detail they are smoothed. BIP 103 does this linear increase and re-adjust every 3mo to the curve. -
He was suggesting the halving events also be smoothed like some alts. 0.99999670533 reduction/blk gives 0.5 over 4 years + leap day
-
Correction. Down to the satoshi: 1/2-way into next halving apply every 4 hours: BTC=12.5*int(1E8*A*B^(N/8750))/1E8 where ...

@adam3us Make people an installable package (like I can download from the top of http://xtnodes.com ) and I'll update my full nodes. -
.
@Kosmatos clarifying: safer if first agree on approach, code & test, before running security critical $4b consensus code live on network. -
.
@Kosmatos as told@gavinandresen if people want to see code 2-4-8 you can code yourself by changing 3 constants in@pwuille's BIP 103 code.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Adam. So are we expecting 4mb in August?
-
tech changed under that, was before segwit soft-forkability was found. similar scale using SW & Schnorr explained:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEZAlNBJjA0&t=1h0m …
