I wonder what the information sources were for the people at the time to have majority chosen to move to fiat. Seems nonsensical in retrospect.

The 2000 referendum was only narrowly won yo get off 40% gold standard. They had another citizen led referendum in 2014 to reintroduce initially 20% gold standard and no gold selling after further accumulation. It lost 70% against I think. But at least they're trying and 30% get

Only 40% from 1920? Latvian lats were fully gold backed from 1922 to 1940, also stated in law (1 lat = 0.2903226 grams pure gold).
