Daycare is unaffordable. Why? Because their mom isn't the type of lady who babysits their kids for free and their requirements for daycare are stringent enough to cost more than $1500/month.

And the marginal cost of having more kids with a certain lifestyle is so high that it's almost worth putting that money into "improving" your existing kids in some way

In short, there really isn't a substitute for religiosity when it comes to increasing upper middle class fertility because it's not really a rational choice for these people to have more than a couple kids

There are basically zero economies of scale available to 2-income urbanite parents (be it childcare, housing, food, vacation.)

The solution to which is pretty obviously to abandon the 2-income trap and move into less pricey area.

There are a lot of solutions but they're too alien to be appealing to upwardly mobile white people

And without some sort of religious or civilizational compulsion to multiply your progeny there's really no reason to make awkward lifestyle choices
