So I want to add some context for this. A recent Trumper I talked with told me she was upset with how the media does its most to "rile up" minorities against the President and against people like her, who wish them no harm. There are two things I would point out about this.https://twitter.com/EvansRyan202/status/1056893466192547847 …
Most conservatives' beef with the media is that they just feel hurt at being smeared as Nazis for holding what used to be bipartisan views on immigration

Alas most conservatives, and indeed most people, do not and cannot think like that. Political memory is short, for conservatives and liberals alike.
-
I disagree. Most conservatives are very aware of the fact that they have been silenced in the workplace and in the public sphere for what used to be fairly ordinary views. Almost everyone right of center I know laments the end of political debate.
-
Oh give me a break. Most conservatives live, as I do, in deep red states where they have no fear of stating what they think when they think it, be it at dinner tables or in boardrooms. There are industries where this is not true--but industries also are divided on partisan lines
-
It's ridiculous to argue that it's as easy to publicly voice ones support for a Trumpist platform as it is to voice ones liberal views, it's simply not true but I suppose it's meaningless to debate anecdote.
-
Depends on many things. I live in the rural deep red. I personally know an elem. school teacher who waxes eloquent for the Trump cause in front of her fourth graders. On the other hand, even the janitors at Oberlin are smart to keep any kind thoughts for Trump to themselves.
-
Any any case, your argument is built on a cruddy premise. The agency stripping narrative about minorities goes back before the Great Awokening by several years. Its mirror, which strips agency from rural and wcw, goes back several decades.

I think it's entirely reasonable to resent a climate in which one can't even share ones fairly mild right wing political views and conservatives blame the media for establishing this climate.
