One of the interesting things I learned about breastfeeding is that primates - more than other animals - need to learn how to nurse their young and they consequently have very high failure rates. Humans are the worst.

I can't remember where I read it, but I remember coming across the idea that Christianity took over Rome because of differential fertility. One much expect, at a certain point, selection for inherent fecundity.

However, the interactions between genes and memes are probably the area where selection occurs amongst the civilized.
