Of the 3 motives driving political leaders (power over peoples&lands, glory, wealth), Trump is mainly keen on glory and wealth. This sets him apart from the previous US presidents who focused on hard power (over human bodies and territories) or soft power (over human souls).

Trump's relative disinterest in pure political power is the reason why he doesn't care about preserving the American Empire, both in its geopolitical (hard power) and ideological (soft power) manifestations.

I think you've got it wrong. He's a nationalist in the style of Robert Taft so he doesn't believe in American hegemony
