random topic: the other day I happened to watch a YouTube video of Otto von Habsburg's funeral procession through Vienna and it made me think a lot. First of all, how strange that a person's circumstances can change so dramatically in their lifetime.
And secondly, how interesting that we get these occasional events that show a spontaneous yearning for a ceremonial past of which monarchy is such an intrinsic aspect.

Here in the US we have the comical phenomenon of Constitution worship. In England, it's the NHS. But these are really poor substitutes.
