They've done this before with the LGBT issue and it's been extremely successful so it's not surprising that it's being attempted with immigration

But immigration is a much more existential issue than the bourgeois niche issue of gay marriage, particularly to the middle and working class who has to deal with its consequences every time immigration destroys their children's schools or their neighborhood

So my guess is this will fail dramatically, despite short term successes with this family separation issue.

The recent escalation seems a Trump administration decision. And it's much more than just Dems who have turned it into a moral issue.

I, too, would like a sober debate over immigration policy but the administration's actions do not seem designed to engender that

What restrictionist measures do the Democrats seem willing to entertain? I see no evidence that they view the immigration concerns of Trump voters as anything but racism

They seemed up for the Graham Durbin deal until Trump killed it? Trump may have poisoned the well too much at this point

You mean the one that amnestied not only the DACA people but their parents too? I don't think it was something that any serious restrictionists supported

Then you've defined serious restrictionists to a group that's a pretty small minority

Graham/Durbin had the most votes of any of the 4 bills the Senate voted on iirc, and the most restrictionist one had the least

The Graham Durbin bill would have been the largest amnesty in the country's history as far as I recall. I asked you what restrictionist measures the Dems are willing to sign onto, to cite this as an example is absurd

As big as Reagan's? I mean...you asked me to name a restrictionist measure, you didn't put any other requirement on it other than that. But now I see the bar keeps rising.

Graham Durbin got a majority of Senate votes. Trump supported it until Miller got to him and convinced him otherwise. With Trump's support it would prob have passed the House. Seems like one of the bills that could pass, so idk why it would be viewed as a leftist plot.

I don't see how it can be called restrictionist by any stretch of the term, though. It was just an amnesty. We know that the GOP Senate is not representative of the GOP base when it comes to views on immigration

It includes restrictionist measures. If you mean what restrictionist reforms Dems would accept for absolutely nothing in return, then perhaps nothing. But that's a different question

But I don't see any reason Dems should accede to what the GOP base wants if they're not getting anything they want back

But back to your first question, of whether Dems will "entertain" restrictionist measures (I assumed you meant in exchange for things Dems and many Rs want, like amnesty and path to citizenship for Dreamers), it seems like answer is yes
