I actually have no idea, I should have a friend ask him. To be quite fair, child support less important in Japan, where the cost of raising a child is much much lower than the US. I have Japanese friends who pay like $150 a month for childcare holy shit

America is also a hellsociety for raising children and I do blame that on neoliberalism (insane rat-race arms race for the handful of few good jobs in America). and the general mental illness of the professional/neoliberal class.

I think neolib policies have allowed almost all economic growth to percolate to upscale professionals in coastal metropolises, which means very few good jobs. Also insane educational policies (from the typical neolib "MORE EDUCATION ALWAYS GOOD")

I kind of imagine neoliberalism as simply the economic policy preferences of the corporate/managerial class. They would absolutely freak out if we stopped federal college loans. The IMF/World Bank would condemn America and drop it in all kinds of rankings.

I actually think it's pretty easy to crash them down. Gruesome taxes on the professional elite to pay for all kinds of things that conservatives like (subsidies to things like family formation, manufacturing, agriculture, military, etc. etc.)

Neolibs are self-destructive because they have hollowed out the middle-class and made entry into the elite class so impossible, it's now numerically possible to just make a complete end-run around them in politics. If anything, that's the ideal way to win elections now.

What evidence is there that subsidies will boost fertility given that the middle class is not having children because upwardly mobile children cost like $500,000 each. What sort of subsidy could compete with that? And how do we guarantee such subsidies won't further inflate

the costs associated with childrearing?
