What evidence is there that subsidies will boost fertility given that the middle class is not having children because upwardly mobile children cost like $500,000 each. What sort of subsidy could compete with that? And how do we guarantee such subsidies won't further inflate

Well, the most important part of the solution is to create an economic system where upwardly mobile children don't cost $500,000 (ie, economic nationalism that actively prioritizes promoting high-employment, good-job industries).
