It's pretty obvious that the whole "gender affirmative" approach is to socially transition these kids early enough that they hope to discourage their growing out of the chosen gender identity at a later point in their adolescencehttps://www.kqed.org/futureofyou/440851/can-you-really-know-that-a-3-year-old-is-transgender …
Also, all the retard NPR commenters on this article miss the radical nature of it entirely and are focusing on the idea that there should be no gendered toys at all, lol.

Few things shock me but trying to lock a 3 year old into an irreversible, socially defined identity in order to prove your political views on gender is a sign of how genuinely insane society has become.

And yes, there are all sorts of "read the article" comments on how social transitioning isn't irreversible. Yeah, pretty sure a social transition that occurred before the kid even starts elementary school is hard to reverse without a huge degree of shame and pain.

Here's crazy Diane Ehrensaft brushing off the perfectly reasonable objection that her insane radical approach would be hard for a child to reverse later in adolescence "it's just nail polish haha"pic.twitter.com/jlkKHlsWSx

No shit, the social reaction is what makes it difficult and she knows that, which is why she's so eager to lock in the gender identity at such a young age. To prove her crackpot, unsupported-by-research ideas right by sheer force of social pressure.
