Word seems to be Tommy Robinson has been to court and has been given 13 months plus there are reporting restrictions on the case. He was on a suspended sentence it seems.
How do these reporting restrictions work anyway? Does it fall under contempt of court?

The case he was reporting on had normal reporting restrictions so he didn't violate them as the defendents details were in the public domain. The reporting restrictions are on his case and they can be anything the judge says. His team are saying they can't say anymore.

I'm just wondering how "reporting restrictions" on court cases work in general. It's a weird concept to me, but I guess it follows from the UK's weirdly expansive contempt of court laws

I think the default case is restrictions until trial unless extended for other reasons. In this case I don't know because I think he has been found guilty of breeching his terms of license. Reporting restrictions can mean no information is allowed to be published at all.
