I'm skeptical that remote work will have as big an impact as many on Twitter believe. There's a night and day difference between pitches from founders in major startup metros and remote ones. Not so much in quality, but in recognizing what information is most important. /1

Given the many examples of successful companies that currently are distributed, I’m trying to figure out reasons why a transformative remote trend won’t occur

The "many examples" are almost all open source adjacent software companies with 1,200ish FTEs. I have no doubt there are many more companies to be founded in that mode. I'm less clear how a company like P&G (100K FTEs) or United Healthcare (300K FTEs) will make it work.

Yeah, it can clearly work where you've got a talent pool steeped in open source norms/practices + highly technical work that can be segmented and recompiled, and an organization built around the same.

The success of any business relies heavily on how good your team is and how happy your team is. Remote/distributed work allows companies to expand their talent pool while at the same time giving those same employees the quality of life they need to be successful and happy.
