Makes me think that what once was a great thing about the Linux kernel being monolithic is becoming a bit of a pointless exercise that just pushes the problem elsewhere and makes Linux support more expensive for IHVs.

Is it actually sensitive? I'd love someone to lay it out for me. The hardware business is old and conservative. But there are good benefits to having it open. (eg long term support of old server hardware)
