seriously though invite more trans creators onto your panels, podcast, roundtables, committees, editorial boards, collaborations, whatever it is. No guarantee they will accept but, you know, you should do it anyway.

This isn't unusual. I have heard these sorts of stories from every trans person who uses gender neutral pronouns that I know in the industry. Publishers and reviewers need to start treating trans authors with a little more respect and care. At least get our pronouns right.

When I used singular they I was told by marketing at one pub that it was too confusing and should pick one and lectured by the (cis) owner of another press about how "made up" pronouns made trans people look bad.

LRT: the way publishing and the book community handles trans people who use gender neutral pronouns is a problem.

Must we subject ourselves to the humiliation of “dating”? Is it not enough to be a Bronte antihero, standing windswept outside the beloved’s window, clutching a letter detailing the enflaming curve of her throat and your intention to posses her heart entirely.

I've resigned from . I would've done it earlier, but I've been having a crazy week. I kept it short because I've already given up too much of my life to trying to make RWA the organization it never was but I'd hoped it could be.

This Jameela situation is really showing the dangers of the neoliberalistion of identity politics and how identity claims are weaponised by the powerful to over-identify with and subsequently, gain access to and profit off the cultural production of marginalised communities

You can’t stop people from being trans except by actually killing us. And even in death we are trans. So you can’t take away our truth, you can only make it harder for us to live.

People have already said this but the BNN covers genuinely reflect publishing’s dedication to falsely *portraying* diversity (because the look of inclusivity sells), without actually having to provide space, resources, or support to POC

“Why promote & uplift BIPOC when we can promote & uplift the white literature that excludes & in some cases actively attacks them? Better yet, let’s promote in a way that will trick BIPOC into buying it!” This is supervillain behaviour.

This makes no goddamn sense unless you’re just repackaging public domain texts so that you can make more money off them instead of paying for and promoting works by actual marginalized voices that the publishing industry has ignored for decades. Oh.

I keep seeing white cishet women say "We can't loose RWA!", "RWA got me my agent" or "RWA allowed me to pitch by book the editor who signed me" Yeah must be terrible not to have that support, that extra in with editors and agents. Must make it hard to publish romance, right?
