It's good the state is closing Northern. It's a good sign that in a presentation, OPM Secretary McCaw said 2 more prisons would also close. But the question of where prison closure money goes is a racial justice issue, about whether the state will invest in helping people thrive.

We’re still working through the rest of the Governor’s budget. But this is very clear: the legislature must step up to make sure the budget invests in people, not policing, and that money saved from prison closures goes toward ending mass incarceration for good.

While I agree services are needed our state police have been understaffed for over a decade . And small towns that don’t have a police department rely on the state police.
