Prioritizing racial justice in a budget requires reallocating money from prisons & policing and into valued public services that make communities thrive, particularly Black & Latinx communities. Governor Lamont’s budget fails to prioritize racial justice in some glaring ways 
.@GovLamontOffice is proposing $3 million more PER YEAR to state police & to add 180 more state police to an already huge force. We need that money spent on services to make our communities strong, not policing. A budget isn't for racial justice if it calls for more $ for police.
.@GovLamontOffice acknowledges $12.6 million in savings by closing Northern. But he's proposing that money go to a vague fund without clear goals, not explicitly reallocating it to services for currently + formerly incarcerated people. The legislature must step up where he hasn't
It's good the state is closing Northern. It's a good sign that in a presentation, OPM Secretary McCaw said 2 more prisons would also close. But the question of where prison closure money goes is a racial justice issue, about whether the state will invest in helping people thrive.
We’re still working through the rest of the Governor’s budget. But this is very clear: the legislature must step up to make sure the budget invests in people, not policing, and that money saved from prison closures goes toward ending mass incarceration for good.
WHY AND WHAT REASON WOULD THEY NEED 3. MILLION OH I KNOW THEY WANT OUR HUMILIATING EXPERIENCE THE BREAKDOWN IN OUR FAMILY AND SOULS TO PAY FOR STATE POLICE BODY 
. THAT'S NOT OUR BILL THAT IS THE GOVERNOR BILL. LET HIM PAY THEM. 
While I agree services are needed our state police have been understaffed for over a decade . And small towns that don’t have a police department rely on the state police.
