Last summer in Waterbury, when people protested to tell police to stop killing Black people, police responded with riot gear, tanks, violent arrests. Compare that to what we saw today, when a white supremacist mob tried to stop the US’s peaceful transition of democratic power.

The white supremacist violence at the U.S. capitol today has a direct thread to violence that terrorized new governments during Reconstruction. Policing in the US has its roots in slave patrols. America will never be free until it's free of white supremacy, everywhere.
