Sen. @NancySkinnerCA says highest job growth areas are also where housing is most expensive. Only high job growth areas that saw decreased housing costs are those that have built a lot more housing (and they're not in California). #SB50pic.twitter.com/samgMRmXBV
Skinner says ADUs are important, but aren't creating housing for families because they're too small. Says #SB50 increases housing opportunities in high job growth and transit-rich areas.
Skinner says Sen. Stern's comments on fire risk are misleading & local communities can adjust zoning plans away from the most fire-prone areas.https://twitter.com/acbowen/status/1222649089617084416?s=20 …
Sen. @Jimbealljr offers a qualified "yes" vote, saying he reserves right to oppose in the future. I think he was one of the wildcards.pic.twitter.com/QfuwPo3erp
Sen. John Moorlach, a Republican, says he's "gone out of my comfort zone" to be an #SB50 coauthor. He makes the conservative argument for the bill, namely, property rights and gov't getting out of the way of the market providing needed housing.pic.twitter.com/RIqp6BRzEa
Moorlach also giving arguments against #SB50 as written, asking for all kinds of changes. But says "after decades of benign neglect" it provides big and necessary changes.
Interesting hearing so many senators (including @SenSusanRubio) heap praise on @Scott_Wiener for his efforts to tackle the housing crisis, then saying they'll vote against #SB50. Also says she wants the discussion of the bill to continue, but she'll vote against it.pic.twitter.com/jhJrZNu0Tb
I understood Rubio's comments as a "no." But maybe I'm wrong.https://twitter.com/dillonliam/status/1222662100444688385?s=20 …
Sen. @ConnieMLeyva says she's voting "yes" on #SB50 with all the local governments in her district opposing it, because those local governments haven't done enough to fix the housing crisis on their own.
8 Senators didn't vote, so I guess this is tabled for a moment. Oh the suspense! #SB50pic.twitter.com/Wo4038dbEl
Just to close out this thread: #SB50 fell three votes short. https://twitter.com/acbowen/status/1222689328763031552?s=21 …https://twitter.com/acbowen/status/1222689328763031552 …
