I have spent my life educating people of all ages without hitting them It would be real weird and cruel to start with my defenseless child.

I still find it a failure of society that the only people we are legally allowed to to hit are the weakest and most vulnerable among us.

I mean, if you say it out loud just like that, it seems like the product of a barbaric society. But we're mostly cool with it in practice

Sure, people will instinctively draw the line between "hitting and abuse" but that's a line we only draw for kids.

Dispassionate, instrumental violence is usually considered a particularly heinous form of violence. But not against kids I guess?
