    In May, I talked to public health experts about how COVID-19 case data is collected in three places. With informatics in the spotlight, this seemed the right time to share these journey maps of what happens before a confirmed case appears in a database.

    As we kick off virtual school, remember that the background you often see in the frame on meetings or recorded videos may be a carefully constructed mirage. Many of us are hacking together office corners and 10/10 on doesn't need to be the standard.

    If you're choosing to use an image for a long text box (particularly one that explains data sources or nuances in the data), consider if the design 'benefits' outweigh the accessibility concerns. /2

    An ask to the community: if you must use an image for text, make sure to add alt text to the image. Using images as text seems increasingly popular to allow more fonts and design touches. But without alt text, all of that information is inaccessible to a screenreader.
