I can safely say that in 22 years of being a political journalist, I've never experienced a day like today. No.10 sources now insisting that political editors like myself "are not banned, they are just not invited".

Government attacks impartial civil service and diplomats - media: yay! Government attacks independent judiciary and lawyers who take on government - media: yay! Government attacks free press - media: what, we did not see that coming

This is beautiful. A citation for when you need to cite something so obvious that you can't find a citation for it. "If you have been directed to this page by a citation elsewhere, it is plainly true that the author’s claim is correct." via

Gotta say, 'Horrible Histories' - which is widely considered a beloved part of British childhood for generations - becoming essentially treasonous in the eyes of a big chunk of the UK *OVERNIGHT* is a pretty terrifying omen of how quickly things will spiral.

Ten years ago today, The Lancet retracted Andrew Wakefield’s fraudulent 1998 article claiming the MMR vaccine caused autism. He performed procedures on children unethically, paid kids at a birthday party to give him blood samples, and doctored data. He still claims he was right.

Train from Leeds full of young people who've clearly had a great day out in various bars. Bit scary when you're alone and in a chair. Get to my stop, and one dashes out behind me in massive heels. "I'm checking they haven't forgotten the ramp for you." The kids are alright.

You/the U.K. Gov cannot seriously have thought that the CETA trade deal (all 1200 pages of it) could simply be applied to the U.K., with “Canada” rubbed out and the U.K. inserted, given the balance of trade - the goods and services sold- are so markedly different in their impact

Again, the deal is oven-ready, it's 'done'. If you claim that there is ANY open issue whatsoever, you need to show where you called the 'oven-ready', 'done' claim a FRAUD before the election. Otherwise, you have zero credibility.

My 9-year old’s business idea: open a ‘Beauty Parlour’... “give customers a cup of tea in one of those massage chairs, then tell them they’re beautiful enough as they are and send them home.”

MAIL READERS: “Yeah! We need to stand up to these snowflakes! You can’t say anything these days! They need to man up! Free speech!” ALSO MAIL READERS: “This children’s TV show said something about Britain that’s both true and mildly critical! Burn the BBC! BURN IT DOWN!”

I once visited a high school to do a talk. At the start I asked how many of the kids wanted to be an author when they grew up. Out of about 120, only 1 hand went up. When I finished my talk, I asked again. I'm proud to say, hand on heart, 0 hands went up. Scared that one kid good

Maybe doing it without publicising it, doing it day in day out on minimum wage for no thanks and then going off to her second minimum wage job because Universal Credit is making life intolerable. Can she do that?

Churchill's aspirational words still hold true today more than ever. ❤🇪🇺 "Men will be proud to say 'I am a European'. We hope to see a day when men of every country will think as much of being a European as of being from their native land".

Re-reading Wuthering Heights is a great reminder that 150 years ago, if you, say, sprained an ankle at a neighbor's house, you just lived there for five weeks until it healed.
