I think the concern is over resources ($$$) spent in a highly contested primary. I WANT my nominee to be vetted and a hard fought primary is the best way to do that.

Not only. I think other concerns is that you lift attacks that the general opponent could use and that some people won’t vote if their preferred candidate doesn’t becomes the nominee after a lot of attacks from the other camps
