    Iraqi Kurdish journalist Sherwan Amin Sherwani who has been held in solitary confinement for nearly two months, is allegedly tortured by security forces in Erbil on “politically motivated charges”, his lawyer, wife and rights groups say.

    According to an agreement between Baghdad-KRG, the PKK-backed militias have to be expelled from Sinjar, only Iraqi government forces have to operate in the area. The agreement was primarily aimed at the PKK and was welcomed by US, Turkey.

    PKK-backed Yazidi militia YBŞ has withdrawn from the centre of Sinjar city to the periphery; They are unlikely to be completely expelled from Sinjar region as the militia are locals of the area. YBŞ commander has warned any attempt to push them out of Sinjar will lead to war.

    Russia has recruited 100s of Syrian tribal Arabs from SDF-control Jazira region of NE Syria and trains them in training camps near Qamishli. According to pro-SDF North Press, some for them were sent to Libya to protect oilfields in Haftar-controlled areas.

    Turkey has built dozens of outposts inside Iraqi Kurdistan throughout its border esp in Haftanin, northwest and Bradost, northeast but PKK still manages to give them a lot of headache with hit and run attacks. This one is in the highest mountain in Zakho:

    I follow the KDP-PKK issue to the very day to day details. I’ve been critical of both: I don’t understand what is the point of shallow, simplistic articles that doesn’t scratch even the surface of the issue? I mean, we’re accustomed to simplistic articles on the ME but still..

    After 2003, KRG supposed to have a plan to convince Kirkuk’s Arabs and Turkmen to join KR thru good governance & economic development: Today, for the second time in 2020, teachers of Kurdish schools in Kirkuk demonstrated for their salaries to be transferred from KRG to Baghdad.

    The cabinet has a good PR team for foreign audience and shows on paper to have a plan to improve services via privatisation. But in reality, corruption has drastically increased; smuggling by top leaders have gone out of hand; and their monopoly over market have deepened.

    Some of the Turkish military bases and outposts in the Bradost region, north of Kurdistan’s Erbil province and just north of Qandil. According to PKK media, Turkish military has set up CCTVs near all the bases & outposts and drones surveil the region 24/7.
