Yesterday, I showed my sons this painting — Frederic Edwin Church's end-of-the-Civil-War piece "Aurora Borealis." "Do you think he painted it...like for hope?" Owen (7) asked. I said yes. And then we painted our own interpretations of the Northern Lights together — for hope.

My son who is 8 but generally seems ~13 just came up behind me, put his cap on my head, then ran back out to play soccer. It struck me as so tender and so grown up at once—like when I see a grown man kiss his mom on the cheek. Anyway, happy Monday ❤️

Writing a client post and decided to ask my eight-year-old for help. Me: O, what’s an engineering management trend from 2020? O: well, COVID happened, so you have to wear a mask when you go into engineering places.

This isn't intended to be prescriptive. It's to say—sometimes this happens, sometimes you actually do know when you're 18 years old, and maybe that's because you've always really been 47 inside, but it is one of many things that *can* happen in this life, and you can be so happy.

Happier than I could have imagined. I'm easing up on sharing photos here, but picture this: two long-haired, redheaded boys in Hamilton t-shirts bounce around the room. The daddy they look just like sits a couch cushion over. I'm settling in to write—my dream job—for the night.

It’s either no one in this apartment can find a pair of headphones or this; there is no in-between.

"Heyward wrote that a few months later, she told Dean Arens her entire story of abuse and he responded, “But you drank the alcohol, right?” Heyward wrote that Arens also asked her what she did “to deserve to be hit.”"

Gave the website a lil facelift so it better reflects the types of writing and editing work I'm available for these days. I have room for a few more projects before the end of the year!

If you missed the freebies but still want to try HelloFresh, this referral link gives you $70 off. I don't honestly know if that's on one box or spread across a few (it benefits me for you to use the link—at no cost to you—and all that disclaimer jazz).

New study Texas has the most restrictive voting process in the country: It does not have widespread online voter registration, limits mail-in voting, closes registration a month before Election Day and has cut polling sites in some areas by more than 50%.

Also, this is way less than I wanted to have read this year and then, ya know, this year happened, and I was one of those people who coped some weekends by binging novels and others by binging Samberg, Mulaney, and Meyers content.

14:20:2 (poetry) My to-read list for the rest of 2020 is around 1:3:1, and the non-fiction is primarily narrative-driven. Stories, man ❤️

I am heartbroken by the sexual abuse allegations against Chris Rice. These allegations are credible, and I have full confidence in and their investigation, as well as TCPCA. If you have information, this is a safe place to speak.
