a generational divide that i’m pretty sure exists is millennials hold their phone up and pose for snapchat selfies, kids take the pic in whatever the hell position they’re already in and write texts on top of their awkward angle face like it’s background wallpaper
do you think televisual ideals are the product of an environment with lots of spectators and very few participants? the tv medium assumes the audience is an undifferentiated mass that can’t talk back. creates the 1:many broadcast mode that we associate with personal brands

Sorry I missed this earlier. Yes, that's definitely part of it. Something, too, about the kind of storytelling that televisual media sustains ... how it was entangled with romantic notions of the self, etc. Still thinking on this.
