Probably run into some gambling laws pretty soon after launching a betting app though, right? You'd want an app that acts as an intermediary, everyone puts their money in, and after a consensus winner is chosen, it's paid out, minus small fees from app?

looks like some centralized prediction markets get around gambling laws by capping the bet. there’s also the decentralized variety. even if it’s small terms (“bet you won’t run a mile tomorrow”) it appears to be basically the same. definitely murky legal waters.

Somewhere between prediction markets, beeminder, and betting?
-
less beeminder. something just managing bets between a group 1. your group chat bet you’ll miss your workout— u know u won’t 2. ur friend hates X company— will he bet on it failing in 5 years? 3. ur skeptic friend thinks crypto will collapse— will they put skin in that belief?

I've thought about this often, and it really boils down to not having a sufficient oracle network yet. You could do an honour system, but that basically makes the betting moot.
-
i’ve been thinking about “twitter bets” as a feature in
... feelin it should use a reputation system instead of purely honor system tho -
That would likely be the only thing you could use (In a non-trustless network). You're burning cash or social clout. Choose wisely.
