Apologies for the mischaracterization. I do think this is a fair thing to point out.

No, I only brought up the NYT and Atlantic because I find that stagecraft tends to undermine a moral argument. My problem is that Romney has never had a consistent view of Trump, and neither do I think he will remain consistent with the one stated today.

He may have been trying to secure his place in the history books. Or he may genuinely believe everything he said. Or, more than likely, it’s a bit of both. In any case, Trump is still President, and voters will decide whether to remove him in November.

My tl is half applause for Romney’s bravery and half contempt for that applause. Both reactions strike me as excessive. It’s clear, per , that Romney had reputational incentives to vote as he did. But we’ll never know how strongly those figured into his overall calculus

Michael Lind on Reviving Democracy "The vote is important, but casting a vote every couple of years for one of two candidates—particularly when both have been chosen by donors and elite activists—does not give you very much influence on the system."

This is a great line from Michael Lind, and it's why all the "people are actually better off than they were, if only they realized it" arguments are as wrong as they are. They miss something rather fundamental (and, I would like to think, obvious) about human nature

The full interview between Michael Lind and is very much worth reading. I know some people don't like Lind's ideas, but that's all the more reason to read it. Plus, Aaron is a great interviewer

Exactly. And I think Michael Lind also put it well recently, that liberals think they're right *and* think they're moral, so those who disagree with them aren't just wrong, or dumb, they're also morally deficient

A bit unfair to lump "anti-SJW tweets" in with "Andrew Sullivan's entire career" and "the finest prose of Christopher Caldwell." The latter isn't even on Twitter!

Last week, wrote that "the recent animus against liberalism is not only about ideology or interests." It's also about tone—the "shallow," "self-exculpatory" way many liberals write. As if to prove his point, today the published this:

Seriously, this is nuts. But it's worth interrogating the cultural premises that lead to such a conclusion.
