The Washington Post has started laying off my friends and colleagues. It's wrong and unnecessary and did not need to happen. I'm sad and mad and so disappointed in this institution that I care about so deeply. We're better than this.

Nick Cave is getting a lot of attention for discussing AI but it must be said, more broadly, that his newsletter (the first I signed up for, in this new newsletter reality) is the best one out there. Usually it's about grief, and art, and the meaning of life. It's wonderful.

New: last year NYT ran a blockbuster investigation w/ calls of Russian soldiers criticizing the war. NYT only used first names to protect. We found the article actually had the soldiers' phone numbers in the page source code, exposing them for *months*
